Winter Concerts

As part of the 40th anniversay celebrations, NCO alumna Nicola Bendetti is to perform with Main Orchestra this winter.

The internationally acclaimed violinist, Nicola Benedetti MBE, will join Main Orchestra at their Winter Concert Southbank Centre's Queen Elizabeth Hall on Sunday 9 December.

Nicola was a part of NCO from 1995-1998. NCO is thrilled that Nicola will return once again, this time to collaborate with Main Orchestra and conductor Jonathan Bloxham on Prokofiev's 2nd Violin Concerto. She commented:

“I am so looking forward to working with NCO for their 40th anniversary Main Orchestra concert in December. NCO is an organisation I hold close to my heart. My time with NCO was such an influential and formative experience. At the age of eight I was learning the value and importance of collaboration with other musicians as well as gaining an insight in to the world of orchestral playing."

"NCO offered the opportunity to experience the orchestral sound world and helped me to gain confidence in my own performing. NCO has given so much to so many young people over the last 40 years and I’d like to wish them a very happy birthday! Here’s to the next 40 years of continuing to help develop young musicians. It is a privilege to join them on the musical journey and development of so many talented young people.”

In 2015, Nicola became a Vice President of NCO and confirmed her new role by performing with the Under 13 Orchestra at Glasgow's Royal Concert Hall along with trumpeter Wynton Marsalis.

Since then the soloist has been a firm supporter of NCO and its young members. Earlier this year, Nicola hosted a special workshop at BBC's Maida Vale Studios where she spent the day with strings musicians from the Main and Under 13 Orchestras.

Tickets for this performance are available via the Southbank Centre website today.
