The whole family can enjoy public NCO concerts this August from just £5!

A dazzling display of music awaits for the whole family this summer at NCO's public concerts. From as little as £5, you can hear Great Britain's astonishing young musicians performing Bernstein's energetic Three Dance Episodes from On the Town; Piazzolla's fiery Libertango and Copland's imposing Lincoln Portrait amongst many more. Main Orchestra presents DESTINATION RUSSIA

Date: Saturday 4 August
Venue: Bridgewater Hall, Manchester

Destination Russia begins with Shostakovich commemorating the October Revolution (Festive Overture). Audiences glide through the winter snow on an angel-drawn carriage to The Land of Sweets (Nutcracker Suite).

The orchestra are joined by acclaimed soloist Benjamin Baker for Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No.2 and close the concert with Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4, a touching dedication to his best friend.

This performance is powered by Russian spirit and brought to you by some of Great Britain’s brightest young players - it is not to be missed.

Under 12 Orchestra presents WHEREVER NEXT?

Wherever Next? An orchestral voyage awaits! The young musicians and globe trotters in NCO’s Under 12 Orchestra invite you to join them on a magical, musical journey.

Audiences will glide through the Mediterranean Sea (Overture from The Force of Destiny) then hotfoot over Hungary (Hungarian Pictures), France (Marche Héroïque and Gymnopédies), Russia (Eight Russian Folksongs) and back to home soil in time for Purcell’s Rondeau from Abdelazer.

Gershwin’s dreamy orchestrations take us to Paris, 1945, where a painter is falling in love with a dancer and rebuilding his life post-World War II (An American In Paris Suite). The concert closes with a blazing rendition of Piazolla’s spicy Argentinian offering, Libertango.

Under 13 Orchestra presents AMERICA! - BERNSTEIN CENTENARY

Date: Saturday 18 August
Venue: Leeds Town Hall
Time: 6:30pm concert start
Conductor: Peter Stark

Under 13 Orchestra pay homage to one of America’s greatest composers through a rambunctious repertoire dedicated to the United States. The concert begins in dusty Havana, Cuba, where Gershwin holidayed amongst the grand rainbow avenues and palm trees (Cuban Overture). We hotfoot over to Manhattan with three American sailors, granted leave for 24-hours from their ship: “New York, New York! It's a helluva town!” (Three Dance Episodes from On the Town).

Abe Lincoln’s iconic speeches – including his 1863 Gettysburg Address - take center stage as the orchestra perform their rendition of Copland’s Lincoln Memorial. The performance closes with Dvorak’s Symphony No.9, a hymn to the musical styles of Native and African Americans.
