Main Orchestra Spring Concert: Landscapes and Seascapes

Sunday 8 April (6:30pm) at Colston Hall, Bristol
Conductor: Howard Williams

Landscapes and Seascapes is a concert told in two halves, a dizzying journey through the world and its waters. For the first half you are invited to join NCO as we drift down the longest river in the Czech Republic (Vltava); dance under fallen leaves of orange and red hues (‘Autumn’ from The Seasons); and spend the evening revelling with strange characters atop a Russian mountain (Night on Bare Mountain).

Following the interval, the mood changes from merriment to maritime with excerpts from the Four Sea Interludes from Britten’s first opera, Peter Grimes. The concert closes with Debussy’s impressionist masterpiece, La Mer. Simply sit back and let the music wash over you…

Repertoire

Smetana - Vltava
Glazunov – ‘Autumn’ from The Seasons
Mussorgsky - Night on Bare Mountain (BBC Ten pieces)
Britten – ‘Dawn’ and ‘Storm’ from Four Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes (BBC Ten Pieces)
Debussy - La Mer

Under 13 Orchestra Spring Concert: No Place like Home

Sunday 15 April (3pm) at The Anvil, Bristol
Conductor: Natalia Luis-Bassa

No Place like Home is an orchestral exploration of the word “home” - and what it has meant to musicians over the years. All of the music in this programme has been inspired by the identity, heritage or location of the individual composers.

NCO is proud to announce that the Under 13 Orchestra has been working with composer John Webb to create a piece of music called No Place like… NCO. This is the first instrumental piece written in response to Kerry Andrew’s popular work, No Place Like, part of the BBC Ten Pieces repertoire.

Repertoire

Arnold - 4 Cornish Dances
Carreño - Margariteña
Dvorak - Slavonic Dances No 1 in C Major Op.46, No 3 in A Flat Major Op. 46 and No 8 in G Minor Op. 46
