Concerts Main Orchestra

It was announced today that NCO will be joined by soloist Benjamin Baker at Main Orchestra’s Summer Concert: Destination Russia.

Celebrated violinist Benjamin Baker will be joining the young musicians in NCO’s Main Orchestra for their performance at Bridgewater Hall, Manchester, on Saturday 4 August (6:30pm).

Conducted by Jonathan Bloxham, the young musicians take on an epic Russian-themed repertoire featuring Benjamin's solo on Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 2.

New Zealand-born Benjamin studied at the Yehudi Menuhin School and the Royal College of Music where he was awarded the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Rose Bowl.

His engagements this season include debut recitals at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., Merkin Concert Hall in New York and Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Germany. He returns to Wigmore Hall and undertakes tours of the US, Canada, China, Argentina and Chile.

Destination Russia begins with Shostakovich commemorating the October Revolution (Festive Overture). Audiences glide through the winter snow on an angel-drawn carriage to The Land of Sweets (Nutcracker Suite). Following Benjamin's dazzling solo, the concert comes to a close with Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4, a touching dedication to his best friend.

This performance is powered by Russian spirit and brought to you by some of Great Britain’s brightest young players - it is not to be missed.
