The NCO Board today announced that Catherine Arlidge MBE has been appointed as NCO’s Artistic and Educational Director.

Dr Peter Stark, Chairman of Trustees said:  “We are delighted to welcome Catherine to NCO.  Catherine is an exceptional musician, teacher and presenter, and a formidable advocate of music education for all children and young people.

Catherine’s appointment marks the beginning of an exciting new phase for NCO, in which this remarkable organisation will build on its past success and develop its reputation for providing truly transformational musical experiences.  We look forward under Catherine’s leadership to inspiring many more of our youngest musicians with the excitement of playing and performing together.”

Sir Simon Rattle CBE, NCO President, said:  "Catherine Arlidge is an inspired choice for the NCO. Not only does she know orchestras from the inside, and indeed inside out, but she is also a gifted and charismatic communicator who has thought deeply about how to put music across to everybody. I am thrilled that this invaluable organisation is in such good hands, and I cannot wait to see the results. Bravo NCO and Cath, we are all behind you!"

Catherine said:  "I am thrilled to have the opportunity to lead NCO's artistic future. Through unrivalled educational and performance opportunities NCO is uniquely positioned to develop the potential of exceptional young musicians. I can't wait to meet everyone - the tutors, conductors, staff, parents and of course the young musicians themselves. There are exciting times ahead for us all!"

Alongside her role at NCO Catherine will continue to pursue a diverse range of musical activities, remaining a member of both the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and The Stringcredibles.
