We have big ambitions to reach every talented child in the country, regardless of background, and to really raise the bar for classical music-making in the UK. If this is something you feel strongly about then we would love to hear from you.

I have had the pleasure - and privilege - of attending several NCO events this year. The NCO has really done some fantastic work to raise its profile and your fundraising success is a great reward for all your hard work.

NCO Supporter

NCO is a registered charity that currently receives no public money or Arts Council England funding. In order to do such remarkable work we rely on membership fees paid by parents who can afford to do so and a wide range of fundraising activities. The full cost of providing one place in our orchestras in 2016 ranges from approximately £2,100 a year (for Under 11s, Under 10s and Training Orchestras) to £2,850 for the oldest orchestras which benefit from more courses and concerts. To keep the costs of membership within reach we only ask parents to contribute a proportion of these costs in fees – fees you pay will cover between 41% and 58% of the full cost of your child’s place depending on the orchestra. We also fundraise extensively in order to be able to offer scholarships and to make bursaries and financial support available to families whose children could not otherwise develop their gifts with NCO. This is a considerable annual challenge.

NCO is hugely grateful to all the generous parents, individuals, benefactors, trusts and foundations that support our remarkable work. Whether your contribution is towards the additional £350,000 needed each year fully to cover the costs of providing all of our courses and concerts, or towards the £130,000 needed annually to ensure that NCO remains open to all young musicians with talent and potential, whatever their background or financial circumstances, every single pound of your gift would be put to the best possible use.

In 2016 alone NCO’s programme of activities will include:

  • Holding 9 full residential courses for the six national orchestras
  • Operating six regional orchestras throughout the year
  • Producing 16 concert performances, six of which are at leading public concert venues
  • Providing life changing and magical musical experiences to over 700 young musicians
  • Holding 70 days of auditions at 36 venues UK-wide for 2017 membership

Please consider supporting NCO – there are many different ways you can help, and all gifts of whatever size truly make a difference. Please browse the rest of this section for ways to get involved.

On behalf of the amazing NCO members this year, and future generations of young musicians, thank you.
