To audition for membership of NCO, you need to be aged 7-13 on the 31 December of the current year. In exceptional cases, a child aged 6 but who will be 7 years old by the date of the summer course may be accepted for audition.
You need to play one of the following orchestral instruments at the appropriate standard: Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, French Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba, Percussion or Harp.
You don’t have to have taken any grade exams, because offers of membership are based entirely on your audition. To give a rough indication of the level you will need to be playing at to be successful at audition please check our grades list, showing the grades current NCO members have told us they have taken.
