A magical must-see: National Children's Orchestra brings Hogwarts to the Brighton Dome on Saturday 9 April 2011

Issued: 8 March 2011

FROM: THE NATIONAL CHILDREN’S ORCHESTRA OF GREAT BRITAIN

The National Children's Orchestra of Great Britain (NCO) is to bring the magic of Harry Potter to life at Brighton Dome, Concert Hall on Saturday 9 April at 7pm, as the UK's most talented young musicians come together to give an unforgettable performance.

The concert, which is to feature music from the much-loved Harry Potter films as well as other rousing pieces including Tchaikovsky's Capriccio Italien and Delius' La Calinda, is to showcase the exceptional talent of the NCO Under 13 Orchestra, under the baton of its dedicated conductor Roger Clarkson, director of music for the NCO.

Under 13 Orchestra member, Noah Max, says "I am a massive fan of the Harry Potter films and it has been brilliant to bring some of my favourite film music accompaniments to life.  I just can't wait to get on stage now!"

Roger Clarkson, conductor and director of music, comments "We are all very excited about the upcoming concert at Brighton Dome.  The Under 13 Orchestra will be tacklng a magical programme of music which is sure to enchant music lovers of all ages.  I find it incredible to watch these young players engage so wholeheartedly with each piece they take on – whether it is Williams' modern-day film score, the Harry Potter Symphonic Suite, or Liszt's nineteenth-century symphonic poem, Les Préludes.  The children approach all of the music with an inimitable youthful vigour and the skill and precision of players twice their age."

Local young violin sensation, Maya Saxena from Haywards Heath, is set to play with the Orchestra on the night.  Aged just 12, this will be her second year as a member of the NCO.

Tickets for the National Children's Orchestra Under 13 Orchestra concert at Brighton Dome range from £10 to £18, with £2 off for concessions and just £5 a ticket for Under 16s.  Telephone: 01273 709 709, email: tickets@brightondome.org or book online: www.brightondome.org.

NATIONAL CHILDREN’S ORCHESTRA OF GREAT BRITAIN
The National Children’s Orchestra holds nationwide auditions every year to populate its five age-banded orchestras with the most gifted young orchestral players that the UK has to offer.  2010 saw a record number of children, over 900 hopefuls, audition for a place in the NCO's 2011 Orchestras, with over 480 being successful.

The quality of orchestral training provided to NCO members is unrivalled, with children being given the opportunity to take part in intensive residential courses where first-class musical training is teamed with lots of fun social activities.

The tutors for these sessions are drawn from major national orchestras and the best specialist music schools around the country.  Each residential course culminates in a full orchestra concert performance, like the one being held at Brighton Dome.
