Main Orchestra

“To see Ben develop over the last four years or so through the NCO, making friends, developing his music, and becoming a young man, has been wonderful. We are so happy for him, proud and grateful that he has felt so able to bring out the best of himself because of the environment you have created.”

The Main Orchestra performs Bernstein's West Side Story at Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham on 22 August 2009.

Getting a place in Main Orchestra is the ultimate NCO achievement. This full symphony orchestra for children up to the age of 14 showcases the very best of the NCO experience.

Members have two 9-day residential courses, one at Easter and one in the Summer, both of which end with a public concert. Previous venues have included Symphony Hall in Birmingham, Brighton Dome and Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham. There is also a Winter non-residential weekend leading up to a concert, usually in the Queen Elizabeth Hall at Southbank Centre.

There are occasionally other special concerts by invitation and members of Main Orchestra may be invited to join the NCO Sinfonietta. Main Orchestra has also been invited to tour abroad, going to China in 2006 and Italy in 2008.
